Chuck Shumer is a man passionate about the issues. Even if that means passionately defending both sides of an issue, you can count on him to do it with vim and vigor befitting a man brave enough to shed tears on national television. His passion apparently blinds him to his hypocrisy. This is a problem that many Democrats seems to have.

In 2013, when Ted Cruz was attempting to stop the unconstitutional implementation of Obamacare, Schumer said on ABC, the Democrats “believe strongly in immigration reform. We could say, ‘we’re shutting down the government, we’re not gonna raise the debt ceiling, until you pass immigration reform.’ It would be governmental chaos.” He continued, saying forcing a “government shutdown” is “the politics of idiocy, of confrontation, of paralysis.”

Some real passion there Chuck.

Fast Forward to 2018

Today, we see the Democrats threatening to “shutdown the government” if they don’t get their way on DACA.

Basically here’s what’s going on – the House has passed a Continuing Resolution (C.R.) to fund the government. Now it’s up to the Senate to pass that same C.R. Democrats are saying unless their demands are met, they won’t vote for the C.R. (the GOP in the Senate will need about 10 Democrats to vote for the C.R. for it to pass). If this happens, we’ll face a “government shutdown” (more on that in a sec).

Shumer is attempting to pass the blame for any “shut down” onto Republicans, despite the fact that it is the Democrats’ lack of support that will cause the “shut down”.

Just a few years ago, the very same Democrats berated Republicans like Ted Cruz for even entertaining the idea of “shutting down” the government. With this amount of stunning hypocrisy, one would almost be forced to conclude that either the Democrats have terrible memories or they’re just dishonest in the extreme.

I’m not going to say which one I believe to be the case, but it’s definitely the latter.

They are only against “government shutdowns” that threaten their policy goals. They are totally ok with “government shutdowns” that have the potential of advancing their policy goals.

Hypocrisy at its worst.

The So-Called Shutdown

People keep talking about this like it’s a bad thing. I got news for you – it’s not!

There’s been many good articles written on this, so I won’t repeat them here. Suffice to say that if the government does “shut down” you probably won’t even notice.

I’ve been putting “government shutdown” in quotation marks because what the Democrat politicians are trying to scare you about, is not truly a “shut down” in the way most people would think of a shut down.

The “essential services” would still continue to operate. Only “non-essential workers” would be put on furlough until the shut down was over. Hardly the earth-shattering apocalypse that the Democrats would have you shaking in your boots about.

-By and large Democrat politicians are hypocrites.

-Don’t succumb to the fear mongering about “government shutdowns”.

-If you can’t survive while the government shuts down “non-essential” services for a week or two, you’re doing something wrong.

-Ask yourself, do you know of any business that would allow “non-essential” workers to continue to work there?

-Freedom means not being dependent on the government. Freedom means following the laws (including immigration laws). Freedom means holding the truth, consistently.
